Course Details
This course offers Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Community Care Workers a qualification to provide a range of primary health care services for their clients and communities.
After completing this course participants will have developed a breadth, depth and complexity of knowledge and competencies that cover a broad range of varied activities in their chosen field, such as:
- Conducting client health and well being assessments
- Case work for clients with complex needs,
Specifically, the course will give participants:
- The confidence and the ability to work in various roles with individuals, groups and communities in their chosen area.
- The knowledge and skills to provide a service that is sensitive to the needs of people.
- The ability to coordinate Community Care health care delivery and to effectively refer clients.
- A clearer awareness of themselves as health professionals, and the skills required in responding to the expectations of communities in which they work.
- An accredited Certificate IV qualification that is recognised nationally
Qualification Pathways
The completion of this qualification will enable some of the following qualification pathways:
Diploma level and higher qualifications in:
- Narrative Approaches,
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care,
- Individual client support qualifications (Aged Care, Community Care and Disability, Mental Health, AOD),
- Community Services and Community Development,
- Social Housing, Advocacy and Pastoral Care,
- Children’s and Youth Services,
- And other social health qualifications.
Only open to Aboriginal people working in the SEWB field.
